Talking Tom features an animated cat that you can pet, poke, feed, and get to repeat the things you say in a silly, distorted voice. While this app can theoretically be used in Child or Adult mode, it's really something younger kids will have the most fun with.
Good animation: The animation and sound effects in this app are great. Tom is kind of a silly looking cat, but that's perfect for this program. He sneezes, yawns, and purrs, and reacts to your petting by doing a little dance, all of which are fun reactions to elicit.
Repetition:There's really no way around it. It's just a lot of fun to speak into the microphone and have Tom repeat your words back to you in his silly voice.
Limited free options: Besides speaking and petting, the only thing you can really do for free in this app is to pour Tom a glass of milk. Four other animations are available, but you have to pay $1.99 to unlock all of them.
Pop-up ads: Not only are there fullscreen pop-up ads, at times, but many of them are animated and may seem to kids to be a part of the game. They're almost sure to hit one of them at some point and be taken out of the app, which is frustrating. There is also always a banner ad across the top of the screen.
If you don't mind paying the $1.99 to unlock the extra animations and remove ads, this app can be a lot of fun for kids to play with. But the truth is that there are probably a lot of better kids' apps out there that offer more options for free and less intrusive advertising.
